On April 4, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham officially signed HB 134! This bill requires free period products in every public school, from elementary schools to high schools.
Advocates at a recent New Mexico legislative session shared how free period products in schools reduce the impact of period poverty on students, and improve attendance and learning outcomes.
HB 134 states that free period products must be provided to students across the state in:
- Each women’s bathroom and gender-neutral bathroom, along with at least one men’s bathroom in each public middle school, junior high school, secondary school AND high school
- At least one women’s bathroom, one men’s bathroom and one gender-neutral bathroom in every public elementary school
This is a HUGE period policy victory — Way to go, New Mexico!
