Period products are officially tax-free in Missouri, thanks to House Bill 594!
The bill passed on May 7, 2025, making Missouri one of 32 states, plus D.C., that have removed the tampon tax.
In addition to period care, Missouri’s HB594 authorizes a state sales tax exemption for diapers and incontinence items.
HB594 includes a capital gains deduction, senior citizen property tax credit and more. It goes into effect on August 28, 2025.
This bill is not the first period policy win for the state, however. In 2023, Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education was granted $1 million in state funding to reimburse schools for the cost of period products.
Through the program, each district in Missouri recieved a minimum of $500 to cover costs in order to provide free pads and tampons to students in grades 6-12.
