At Aunt Flow, we aim to empower menstruators to embrace their periods rather than feel embarrassed or ashamed.
This is one of the many ways in which we are actively spreading period positivity within the menstrual movement!
The Definition of Period Positivity
So what is period positivity?
The concept of period positivity started as a phrase coined by comedian, author and education researcher Chella Quint of the Period Positive campaign. Chella created the term to improve menstrual literacy and spark inclusive menstruation outreach and policy efforts.
At its core, being period positive is all about inclusivity, equality and visibility for ALL menstruators.
What Does it Mean to Be ‘Period Positive?’
It’s period positive to:
- Be gender inclusive. Periods are a health issue, not an issue of gender.
- Openly discuss menstruation and share your experiences with others. After all, the more we talk about menstruation, the less taboo it becomes!
- Fight for menstrual equity. You should have free period products at your workplace, school and BEYOND!

There are a BUNCH of Instagram accounts and organizations that promote period positivity. Here are 15 accounts you NEED to follow ASAP.
