Aunt Flow's Sustainability Steps

Aunt Flow’s Sustainability Steps

July 8, 2024

In a world where environmental consciousness is becoming increasingly vital, every step towards sustainability counts. That’s why we’re committed to clarity, transparency, and conscientious ingredient selection for all our products.

Just this year, we’ve made changes to our products and packaging to ensure we’re keeping menstruators⸺and the planet⸺front and center in all that we do. Read on to learn more about the steps we’ve taken to continue making a meaningful difference, one period product at a time.

Made With 100% Certified Organic Cotton

At Aunt Flow, we are not only helping menstruators, but we are helping ensure a healthy earth and body. The organic cotton used in our cartridge tampons and pads is sourced from certified Organic Content Standard (OCS) farms committed to maintaining the environment.

Organic farming practices save water, conserve natural areas, and help reduce total global emissions. Cotton is cultivated with a focus on energy conservation and waste reduction. By ensuring our period products are OCS certified, we’re committed to climate action and improving industry standards.

Our pads are made with 100% certified organic cotton top sheets. As for Aunt Flow tampons, the core AND string are made from 100% certified organic cotton. Here’s the complete breakdown of Aunt Flow ingredients.

Sustainable Menstrual Products

Plastic-Free Tampons

Did you know? Plastic tampon applicators are among the top ten items found during beach clean-ups.

Aunt Flow tampons are plastic-free while STILL maintaining comfort. Our smooth-tip applicators allow for easy insertion while also caring for the environment. By sticking with cardboard applicators, Aunt Flow has ensured that 23,520,000 plastic applicators did not end up in waterways or landfills.

Reduced Packaging Waste

We removed all plastic from our cartridge pad packaging and eliminated the paper banding strap on our cartridge pad bundles. With the removal of the banding strap on our cartridge pads, we will save 96 trees!

Plus, our new plastic-free cartridge pad packaging helped reduce plastic waste. Pretty cool, right?

Carbon Footprint Mindfulness

Aunt Flow is committed to reducing emissions and our overall carbon footprint. We reduced greenhouse gas emissions in our supply chain by 47x by shipping our products by full containers, compared to air freighting goods.

These are some of the steps that we are taking today. Have any recommendations for us? We’re all ears! Email us at hello@goauntflow.com

Stay in the flow — we’ll send you period positivity + timely updates on the menstrual movement.

founder + ceo

Hi! I’m Claire. I founded Aunt Flow after getting my period in public without the supplies needed.

At 18 years old, I dedicated my life to developing a solution to ensure businesses and schools could sustainably provide quality period products, for free, in bathrooms. Our products are made with organic cotton and we are constantly working to reduce our environmental impact! Since 2021, we've donated over 6 MILLION period products to menstruators in need. I call this people helping people. PERIOD.®
