With Menstrual Hygiene Day coming up on May 28th, Aunt Flow wants to take the whole month of May to celebrate menstruation and periods, as well as provide resources for this momentous day!
As a way to kick things off, we’re giving you a reading list! No, not that kind of summer reading list you ignored in high school. More of a suggested list of period-themed books you can page through. Our list includes books for people of all ages, so check them out and see which ones sound most interesting for you, your family or someone you know.
Menstrual Hygiene Day Reading List
Talk To Your Library About Period-Themed Books!
If you aren’t able to purchase these books, we highly recommend asking your local library to stock them if they don’t already. Libraries all over the country are partnering with Aunt Flow to end period poverty by stocking their bathrooms with our products and filling their shelves with more menstruation-focused content.
One of our favorite library clients is Elkhart Public Library. Jill Martinson, the Elkhart Public Library Development Manager, proposed a grant for fighting period poverty. She came up with a clever solution: “If you’re embarrassed to ask for help about your period you can go to the recreation desk, or checkout desk and ask for books on ‘moon cycles.’”
Along with libraries like Elkhart and hopefully yours, we believe that our library partners are an instrumental tool in fighting period poverty, through increasing access to period products and menstrual health education. You can also click HERE to urge your senators to support the Menstrual Equity for All Act, which would provide free period products for students all over the country.
