What is Menstrual Sustainability?
Menstrual sustainability refers to the deliberate use of alternative menstrual products during one’s period that is better for the environment and body.

What is the Movement Toward Menstrual Sustainability About?
Menstrual sustainability is ALL about being mindful of menstrual products’ significant environmental impact on the planet.
Nearly 20 billion menstrual products are dumped in landfills annually in North America alone. In addition, landfills are the leading sources of methane emissions that contribute to climate catastrophes, according to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (“IPCC”).
Some tampon applicators and the plastic strip on the back of sanitary pads are made from LDPE (low-density polyethylene), a thermoplastic that can take CENTURIES to biodegrade. That’s why it’s imperative to consider the organization’s environmental footprint—and whether or not they’re taking a proactive approach to menstrual sustainability—when providing free period products to your employees or students.
