There are so many prominent days centered around menstruation, such as National Period Action Day (the second Saturday of October) and World Health Day (April 7).
Another one of these days includes Menstrual Hygiene Day!
What is Menstrual Hygiene Day?
Menstrual Hygiene Day, also known as MH Day, was created to draw attention to period poverty and tackle the stigma associated with periods. It’s also an opportunity to highlight the importance of every menstruator having access to safe, sanitary, and hygienic products and spaces while on their period.
Menstrual Hygiene Day was first introduced by the German non-profit organization WASH United back in 2013. Since its first celebration in 2014, MH Day has grown significantly into the global advocacy platform that it is today.
When is Menstrual Hygiene Day?
Menstrual Hygiene Day is celebrated around the world on May 28, 2022.
FUN FACT: Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed on 5/28 each year because the average menstrual cycle is 28 days, and people have their period for an average of five days every month.
